About the Ministry

The Ministry is responsible for the management and sustainability of the natural resources of the country, including crown lands, coastal and marine resources and the environment in general.

The Ministry has a number of departments under its portfolio including Survey and Mapping, Land Valuation, Land Registry, Environment and Coastal Resources, Maritime and Planning. In addition, in November 2005, TCIG approved a Crown Land Policy, with a primary objective of providing long-term benefits to TC Islanders; both in terms of increasing their role in commercial land development and achieving greater access to land for residential use. That policy specifically called for the establishment of a Crown Land Unit within the then Ministry of Natural Resources. The Crown Land Unit was subsequently established in 2007 and, under the new Crown Land Policy published in 2011, the Crown Land Unit continues to be at the forefront of Crown land management in the Territory.
